Quick answer
A large family photographer Denver reunions need organizes multi-generation groups so every branch gets photographed without the session dragging on. Rocky Mountain Photography builds a shot list with you, chooses a location with room and easy access, poses big groups so every face is visible, and works quickly through all the smaller combinations.
Getting twenty or thirty relatives together is rare, so the photos carry real weight. A large family photographer in Denver needs to be part portrait artist and part event coordinator: arranging rows, calling names, keeping kids engaged, and making sure grandparents are comfortable while everyone else gets organized.
Rocky Mountain Photography, started in Denver in 2016 by Jeff and Nick Perry, photographs reunions, milestone anniversaries, and holiday gatherings where three or four generations finally stand in the same place. Planning ahead is what makes those sessions run smoothly.
Large group sessions succeed or fail on organization. Before the date, we work with one family point person to build a written shot list. It usually starts with the full group, then moves through each household, grandparents with all grandchildren, grandparents with each family, siblings from the original family, cousins, and any special requests like a great-grandparent with the youngest baby.
We order the list so the biggest groups happen first, while everyone is fresh and clean, and so people can leave the area once their combinations are done. The point person helps by gathering each group as we call it. On the day, we work quickly and keep things moving, because energy drops fast in a big crowd. Having the list agreed in advance also prevents the end-of-session scramble when someone remembers a photo that was never taken.

The goal is simple: every face visible, nobody hidden behind a tall cousin, and a shape that looks intentional rather than like a crowd. We build groups in layers - seated grandparents in the center, standing adults behind and around them, children in front on the ground or on laps - and vary head heights so the group forms pleasing triangles.
We use steps, benches, low walls, and gentle slopes to stack rows naturally. For very large groups, we may photograph from a slightly elevated position, such as a ladder, so back rows are not blocked. Everyone stays close together, because gaps look bigger on camera. We take several frames of each group to catch eyes open, and we can blend the best expressions when needed. Then we loosen up with a fun frame - a cheer, a wave, a laugh - that often becomes the favorite.

Large groups need space, shade, accessible parking, and a short walk for older relatives. City Park, Washington Park, and Cheesman Park offer big lawns with mature trees for even shade, and the steps of a pavilion or building can help with rows. Families renting a home in the mountains or gathering at a relative's property often prefer to be photographed right there, which removes travel entirely. Some parks and venues require permits for large groups, and we check rules before booking.
For outfits, choose a shared palette of three or four colors and let each household pick its own combination. Avoid logos, neon, and tiny patterns. Matching T-shirts are fine for a playful frame but limit the timeless feel. Comfortable shoes help everyone stand longer, and having water, chairs for elders, and snacks for kids keeps the session pleasant from start to finish.

Because of his great sense of humor and relatable personality, I went from anxious and uncomfortable to having a blast in a matter of minutes during the photo session. I have and will continue to recommend Jeff and Rocky Mountain Photography."

It depends on the size of the group and the number of combinations on the shot list. A clear list, one point person to gather groups, and on-time arrivals make it go much faster. Your written quote lists the session length based on your family size and requests.
We arrange groups in layers with seated, standing, and kneeling rows, vary head heights, and use steps or slopes. For very large groups, we shoot from a slightly higher position. Several frames of each group make sure we capture everyone with eyes open and a good expression.
Yes. Beyond formal portraits, we can capture candid moments during the reunion itself: games, meals, storytelling, and kids playing. Mixing formal portraits with event coverage gives you a complete record of the gathering. Tell us the schedule and we will plan coverage around it.
We start with the groups that are present, then add latecomers to the full group frame once everyone arrives. The point person helps keep track. If the full group must be first, we wait a few minutes, but long delays can push other combinations, so on-time arrival matters.
Yes, but loosely. Pick a palette of three or four colors and let each household choose its own combination within it. That looks cohesive without being uniform. Avoid big logos, neon colors, and busy patterns, which pull attention away from faces in large group frames.
