Quick answer
A Denver courthouse wedding photographer covers short civil ceremonies, license signing, and portraits nearby, usually in an hour or two. Rocky Mountain Photography checks office rules on cameras and guests ahead of time, works quietly during the ceremony, then photographs couple and family portraits around Civic Center and downtown Denver before your celebration.
A courthouse wedding is small, fast, and often the most emotional fifteen minutes of a couple's life. A Denver courthouse wedding photographer needs to be ready the moment you walk in, respectful of a working government building, and efficient enough to give you great portraits without turning a simple day into a production.
Rocky Mountain Photography, founded in Denver in 2016 by brothers Jeff and Nick Perry, photographs civil ceremonies, self-solemnized weddings, and intimate elopements around the city. This page covers what courthouse coverage looks like and how to plan it.
Civic buildings have their own rules. Some offices limit the number of guests, restrict photography in certain rooms or hallways, or schedule ceremonies back to back with little time between. Before the date, we review current guidelines for where the ceremony will happen and plan around them. If a room does not allow flash, we work with available light; if space is tight, we choose a position that captures both of your faces without blocking guests.
Coverage usually begins as you arrive, with a few frames of the two of you walking in together, paperwork and ring details, and family greeting you. During the ceremony we stay quiet and unobtrusive. Afterward, we capture the signing, the first kiss as a married couple, and hugs from the small group. Because everything moves quickly, we agree on a must-have list in advance so nothing slips by.

The best part of a courthouse wedding is often the portrait walk afterward. Downtown Denver offers a lot of variety within a few blocks. The Denver City and County Building and Civic Center Park provide classic columns, stone steps, and open lawns. The Capitol steps nearby add grandeur. A short drive brings you to Larimer Square string lights, Union Station's grand hall exterior, or the murals of RiNo for a modern feel.
We plan the walk based on time of day, weather, and how many guests are joining. Midday light can be harsh, so we look for shade along building faces and covered colonnades. If your ceremony is later in the day, golden hour portraits are a lovely bonus. Family formals are kept short and organized, usually just immediate family and close friends, so everyone can move on to lunch or a celebration together.

Colorado is one of the few states that allows couples to self-solemnize, meaning you can marry without an officiant, which opens many options beyond a government office. Couples with a marriage license from the county clerk can marry in a park, on a mountain overlook, in a backyard, or at a favorite restaurant. Confirm the current license requirements with the clerk's office before your date.
Some couples combine both: a quick civil ceremony for the legal part, then a personal vow exchange with family at a more meaningful spot. Others skip the courthouse entirely for a small elopement in the foothills. Each approach works well with lean photo coverage. If you would like moving images too, our elopement videography team can add a short film. We are happy to help plan the timing and location for any of these options.

Because of his great sense of humor and relatable personality, I went from anxious and uncomfortable to having a blast in a matter of minutes during the photo session. I have and will continue to recommend Jeff and Rocky Mountain Photography."

Often yes, but rules vary by office and room. Some areas restrict photography, flash, or the number of guests. We check the current guidelines before your date and plan accordingly. If indoor photography is limited, we focus on arrivals, the signing, and portraits outside.
Most courthouse weddings need a short block of coverage: arrival, ceremony, signing, family photos, and a portrait walk. Adding a lunch celebration or a second location extends it. Your written quote lists the exact coverage time and number of edited images.
Civic Center Park and the Denver City and County Building are steps away, with the Capitol nearby. Larimer Square, Union Station, and RiNo are a short drive. We choose spots based on light, weather, and how much time you want to spend on portraits.
Colorado allows couples to marry without an officiant once they have a valid marriage license from a county clerk. That means you can hold your ceremony almost anywhere. Check the clerk's office for current license steps and requirements before planning your date.
Usually a small group can attend, but some offices limit guest numbers or space. Check the current rules for your ceremony location. If your guest list is larger, consider a self-solemnized ceremony in a park or venue nearby, followed by portraits downtown.
