Working with a Denver engagement photographer usually starts one of two ways. Someone is planning a proposal and wants the moment captured without giving anything away. Or a couple just got engaged and wants portraits for announcements, save-the-dates, and their wedding website. Both deserve a photographer who is part planner, part storyteller, and very good at keeping secrets.
Rocky Mountain Photography was founded in 2016 by brothers Jeff and Nick Perry in Denver. We photograph proposals at overlooks, restaurants, parks, rooftops, and mountain trails, and we run relaxed engagement sessions all around the metro. Our photographers also film proposals and engagement videos, so the moment can be relived with sound and motion as well as stills.
Planning a secret proposal
A proposal photo depends on planning. We start by talking through the location, timing, and how you will get your partner there without suspicion. We help choose a spot with good light and a clear line of sight where our photographer can blend in, often posing as a tourist, a hiker, or a fellow diner. We agree on a signal, a mark where you will stop, and which direction you will face, so we capture your partner's reaction and not just your back. Golden hour is ideal outdoors, and we check sunset times and weather the week of. After the yes, we step in to congratulate you and photograph a short mini session of the two of you, while the emotions are still real. If friends or family are hiding nearby for a celebration, we capture that too. Video can be added to record the words and the reaction.
Engagement sessions around Denver
Engagement sessions are more relaxed: an hour or so of portraits in a place that feels like you. Denver offers plenty of choices, from tree-lined parks and quiet historic neighborhoods to murals, rooftops, and historic downtown streets, plus foothills and mountain settings within a short drive. Some parks and open spaces require permits for photography, and we will advise. We guide you through natural prompts and movement, which helps nervous couples relax quickly, and the session doubles as practice for your wedding day. Outfit changes are welcome, and pets are too. The images are perfect for save-the-dates, wedding websites, and gifts for parents. If your wedding is booked with us, the engagement session also gives you a chance to work with our team before the big day. Couples celebrating an anniversary rather than an engagement can see our couples photography page for a similar session.
Engagement video and next steps
Video adds a lot to a proposal. A videographer can capture what you say, how your partner reacts, and the celebration afterward, edited into a short film you can share with family and friends who were not there. For engagement sessions, a short video can be used on your wedding website or social media announcement. After the session, you receive an edited gallery with natural color and light retouching, and video edits follow on the agreed timeline. Prints and canvas pieces can be ordered through our canvas printing service. When you are ready to plan the wedding, our wedding photographer and wedding videography pages explain full-day coverage, and our team can carry the same style from engagement through the wedding.
