What drives a video production quote
Every quote breaks down into three phases. Pre-production covers planning: discovery calls, scripting, storyboards, shot lists, location scouting, scheduling, and casting. A testimonial video might need an hour of planning; a scripted commercial might need days. Production is the filming itself, and it scales with crew size, hours on set, number of locations, travel, and specialty gear like gimbals, sliders, teleprompters, or lighting for large spaces.
Post-production is often the largest line and the one people underestimate. It includes editing, color grading, sound mixing, licensed music, captions, motion graphics, and revision rounds. Each additional version, such as a vertical cut for social, a fifteen-second ad, or a translated edition, adds editing time. Optional extras like drone flights, voiceover talent, on-camera actors, permits, and studio rental appear as their own line items so you can choose what to keep.
