Kids photograph best when they are rested, fed, and having fun, so we schedule around naps and mealtimes and keep sessions short. With toddlers, we follow them more than we pose them: chasing bubbles, climbing on a favorite rock, reading a book upside down. With school-age kids, we ask about their interests and bring those into the session, whether that is a soccer ball, a ballet costume, or a skateboard. Teens usually prefer a more relaxed, editorial style, and we give them some say in locations and outfits so they feel ownership. Parents are always nearby, but we encourage them to let us take the lead so kids are not distracted by instructions from every side. If a child needs a break, we take one. The photos are better when nobody is pushed, and some of the strongest images happen right after a pause when everyone resets.
