A passport photo looks simple, but small problems such as shadows, a tilted head, or the wrong crop can lead to a rejected application and a delayed trip. A studio session removes most of that risk.
Passport photos are handled through Passport Photos Denver, a division of Rocky Mountain Photography. The session uses the same studio lighting and attention to detail we bring to business headshots, scaled down to a quick appointment.
Each session uses controlled studio lighting and diffusers to give even light on the face without harsh shadows, against the plain background passport rules require. A trained photographer guides your posture and expression, takes a series of frames, and reviews them with you so you can choose the one you like best. The selected image is cropped to the exact size and head position your country requires.
Every country sets its own size, head position, and background rules, and some have extra requirements for the print itself. Canadian passport photos, for example, use a different size from U.S. photos. We commonly produce U.S., Canadian, UK, French, and Chinese passport photos and can prepare photos for other countries and visas as well. Tell us the country and document when you book so the photo is cropped correctly.
Pharmacies and shipping stores offer passport photos, but lighting and cropping vary from one visit to the next. A dedicated studio session gives you control over the result and a chance to choose your favorite frame. You can book online for a set time or visit our Denver studio as a walk-in. U.S. passport photos must be in color, taken within the last six months, and show your full face looking straight at the camera with a neutral expression or natural smile. Eyeglasses are not allowed, and hats or head coverings are only accepted for religious or medical reasons. Wear everyday clothing, avoid uniforms, and keep your hair away from your face so your features are clear.

We photograph and crop each image to the published specifications for your country, and you review the frames before choosing one. Final acceptance is always decided by the issuing agency, so read the official requirements for your document and tell us about any special instructions.
