We capture twilight from the ground and from the air. Our Part 107-certified pilots fly during civil twilight with the anti-collision lighting Part 107 requires, so a single evening can deliver both perspectives.
The magic of twilight comes from balance. During civil twilight, the period just after sunset, the sky still holds enough light to show the building's form and the surrounding landscape, while artificial lights become bright enough to glow. Shoot too early and the lights look weak. Shoot too late and the sky turns black and detail disappears. That balance lasts only a short time, so planning is everything. We confirm the exact times the day before, set up early, and work through a prioritized shot list. Many shoots also capture blended exposures, combining frames to hold detail in both bright interiors and dark exteriors without an artificial look. Morning twilight before sunrise can work too, especially for east-facing buildings or when evening schedules conflict.
Twilight from the air adds a dramatic perspective. A drone can rise above a hotel to show a glowing pool deck and the city lights beyond, capture an office tower with every floor lit, or show a retail center's parking field and storefronts illuminated. FAA rules allow Part 107 pilots to fly during civil twilight when the aircraft has anti-collision lighting visible for several miles, and our aircraft are equipped for that. We check airspace authorization before every flight, which matters near Denver's airports and downtown. Mountain and resort properties look stunning at twilight too, though wind and temperature changes at altitude need extra planning. Aerial and ground twilight are often captured the same evening, with the ground photographer and pilot working in sequence so neither misses the best light.
Lighting makes or breaks twilight. Ask the building team to turn on every interior light visible from outside, including lobbies, corridors, and offices, and to raise blinds. Exterior lighting, signage, landscape lights, pool lights, and fire features should be on and working, with any burned-out fixtures replaced in advance. Remove vehicles and clutter from key views. We edit twilight images to keep color natural and avoid invented effects such as added lights or fake fire. Brokers use twilight as hero images for listings, offering memorandums, and signage.
