Step and repeat photography turns a branded backdrop into one of the most valuable parts of an event. Guests love a flattering portrait, sponsors get their logos in every shot, and PR teams get press-ready images of VIPs. Without a dedicated photographer and proper lighting, though, the backdrop becomes a blur of phone selfies with glare and shadows.
Rocky Mountain Photography was founded in 2016 by brothers Jeff and Nick Perry in Denver. We run step-and-repeat stations at galas, film and arts premieres, nonprofit fundraisers, product launches, conferences, and corporate parties. Our photographers handle lighting, posing, and the flow of guests, so the station looks professional and the line keeps moving all night.
How a step-and-repeat station works
A step-and-repeat is a backdrop printed with repeating logos, often for the event, host, and sponsors. We place it in a high-traffic spot, usually near the entrance, and set up professional lighting that evenly lights faces and the backdrop without hotspots or glare from glossy vinyl. Guests step up in pairs or groups, our photographer gives quick posing direction, captures a few frames, and the next group steps in. A greeter or volunteer helps manage the line during peak arrival. We frame images so logos are visible around guests, which matters for sponsor value, and we photograph VIPs, honorees, and sponsors intentionally when they arrive. Red carpet runners, stanchions, and props can be added for more glamour. If you do not have a backdrop yet, we can point you to local printers or our own large format printing service to produce one in time.
Events that benefit from a backdrop
Step-and-repeat portraits are a natural fit for galas and fundraisers, where guests dress up and sponsors want visibility. Corporate events, product launches, and holiday parties use them to give employees and clients a polished photo. Film festivals, premieres, and fashion events rely on them for press. Conferences use them for speakers and sponsors, and awards nights use them for winners with their trophies, as covered on our awards ceremony page. Weddings and milestone birthdays sometimes add a custom backdrop as an elevated photo booth. Casino nights and themed parties pair them with props for fun group shots. In every case, the station creates content that guests post on their own social channels, which extends your event's reach far beyond the room and shows sponsors exactly how often their logo appeared. That reach is easy to demonstrate after the event.
Delivery, sharing, and pairing with event coverage
Images from the step-and-repeat are edited for consistent color and exposure and delivered in an online gallery that guests can browse and download. For galas and press events, a set of VIP and sponsor portraits can be delivered first, sometimes the same night, for social media and press releases. Galleries can be organized by time or guest group when needed. Many clients pair the station with roaming event photography, with one photographer at the backdrop and another capturing the program and candid moments, so nothing is missed. If you are budgeting, the step-and-repeat is usually most valuable during the first hour or two, when guests arrive fresh and dressed up. Package options are explained on our event photography packages page. Share your venue, guest count, and timeline when requesting a quote, and we will plan placement, staffing, and lighting.
