What drone LiDAR captures
A LiDAR sensor sends rapid laser pulses and records how they return. Because some pulses slip through gaps in leaves, LiDAR can map bare ground under trees, which photo-based methods cannot. It also captures thin features like power lines, guardrails, and rooftop pipes. Each point carries an exact position, so measurements come straight from the data rather than from estimates.
The raw output is a point cloud: millions of measured points that can be classified into ground, vegetation, buildings, and wires. From there, we or your team can produce digital terrain models, contours, cross sections, and volume calculations.
- Bare-earth terrain models under vegetation
- Corridor scans for roads, pipelines, and power lines
- Building and roof geometry for design
- Volumes, cross sections, and change detection
