Quick answer
A Denver drone pilot from Rocky Mountain Photography holds an FAA Part 107 certificate, carries insurance, and checks airspace before every flight. Our drone photographers fly real estate, construction, events, brand video, and mapping projects across Denver, combining safe flying with a photographer's eye for composition, light, and timing.
A Denver drone pilot needs two skill sets. The first is flying: knowing the rules, reading airspace and weather, and keeping people and property safe. The second is photography: choosing angles, light, and movement that make the images useful. Our pilots are photographers and videographers first, which shows in the results.
This page introduces how our pilots work and what to expect when one arrives at your site.
Every pilot on our team holds an FAA Part 107 remote pilot certificate, which requires passing a knowledge test and keeping current with recurrent training. Pilots carry insurance and follow FAA rules for altitude limits, visual line of sight, flights over people, and night operations.
Before a flight, the pilot reviews airspace maps, requests authorization through LAANC or other FAA processes when needed, checks for temporary flight restrictions, and reviews the weather. On site, they walk the launch area, look for wires, trees, and people, and brief anyone on site about where the drone will be.
If something changes, such as a gusty wind, an approaching helicopter, or a crowd gathering, the pilot lands. Safety calls are never negotiable, even if it means coming back another day.
Flying legally is the baseline. What sets a good drone photographer apart is knowing what the client needs to see. A real estate pilot positions the drone so a house sits naturally in its lot with the mountains behind it. A construction pilot returns to the same GPS positions every month. A video pilot plans smooth reveals that cut cleanly with ground footage. An event pilot captures the venue before guests arrive and keeps the drone at the edges once the crowd forms.
Our drone aerial photographer page shows still photography work, and our drone aerial videography page covers video.
The pilot arrives 15 to 30 minutes early to scout, confirm conditions, and set up. Most property flights take under an hour in the air. For larger projects, the pilot may need several battery swaps and planned breaks.
After the flight, images are edited for color, horizon, and clarity, and often delivered the next day. Video and mapping products take longer. If the site has a gate, a security desk, or a superintendent who needs to approve the flight, tell us in advance so the pilot can check in smoothly. For recurring visits, the same pilot usually returns so the angles and process stay consistent. Airspace and authorization needs, temporary flight restrictions, weather and wind, obstacles like wires and trees, and people near the launch site. The pilot also confirms the shot list with you so the flight is efficient and captures everything you need.
FAA rules limit flights over people, and we avoid flying directly over crowds. For events, we plan flight paths around the edges, capture establishing shots before guests arrive, and coordinate with organizers so everyone stays safe.
